How To Choose The Right Medium Duty Workbench

  15/07/2020     Lee Burnham

Medium duty workbenches are excellent all-rounders. They are typically strong enough to bear up to 500kg and are robust enough for metalwork and mechanical engineering. They’re also available in a variety of different sizes.

Choosing the right medium duty workbench for your workshop or garage is a matter of size and what you intend to use your workbench for. We sell a variety of different workbenches which can be split into four distinct groups:

·       Anti-static - for electrical applications

·       Laminated - for heavy use and impact protection

·       Galvanised steel - for maximum strength and toughness

·       MDF - for woodworking and cold applications

What’s the application?

The right medium duty workbench for you is really a matter of application.

If you are an electrical engineer or work with electrics, an anti-static workbench will be ESD safe and durable enough to cope with your work.

If you work with wood, then the organic surface of MDF will be the best fit. MDF is tough and the top can be replaced in the future.

If you are a metalworker or work with iron, then a galvanized steel workbench will be best because it will resist the impact of tools best.

What size do you need?

A medium-duty workbench that’s too small will hinder your progress, and one that’s too big may take up too much space in your workshop.

For most people, there is a fine line between the right size of workbench, which is why we offer so many common sizes (lengths and widths).

Our sizes include:

·       1200 x 750 x 840mm (WxDxH)

·       1500 x 600 x 840mm (WxDxH)

·       1500 x 900 x 840mm (WxDxH)

·       2000 x 600 x 840mm (WxDxH)

·       2000 x 750 x 840mm (WxDxH)

·       2000 x 900 x 840mm (WxDxH)

When choosing a size, take measurements in the place where you will keep your workbench. If you have a hard floor, it may also be worth drawing an outline with chalk so you can visualise where the workbench will live.

Choosing the right medium-duty workbench is about application and size (you need a workbench that’s fit for purpose and big enough for your work).

We sell a variety of medium-duty workbenches. They are tough, reliable and excellent value for money. A good workbench will last you a decade or more. Many of the workbenches we have sold are still going strong over a decade later.
