How To Choose The Right Mobile Workbench

Mobile workbenches are supposed to be portable so that you can move your workspace around. This is normally achieved with castor wheels, so the bench can be wheeled around a room with as little effort as possible.

As with normal workbenches, mobile workbenches are available in a range of sizes and materials. The right workbench for you depends on how much space you need to work and what kind of work you will be doing.

Top material

You can get a mobile workbench with timber or galvanized steel top. Steel tops are the strongest and most durable option, but they are cold and can’t be refinished easily. Wood has a nicer feel, but it is less durable.

Most people choose a top material based on their line of work, while others choose a top material based on what feels better for them.

Wheels and legs

If you intend to move your workbench around regularly then you will want to choose a workbench that sits on castor wheels. The wheels will make moving the bench around easy since you won’t have to lug it around.

The best mobile workbenches have legs that can make it completely static. Locking wheels are fine but there will always be some lateral movement. Mobile workbenches with legs are better because they are more secure.

Size

We sell mobile workbenches in a variety of sizes. The beauty of mobility is you can move these workbenches around to suit your workshop.

The common sizes are as follows (W D H):

·       1200 x 600 x 840

·       1200 x 750 x 840

·       1500 x 600 x 840

·       1500 x 750 x 840

We recommend choosing a work surface that is on the larger side if you have space. This will reduce the chances of needing a larger workbench in the future.

Shelves and drawers

If you want to keep tools and equipment close to your mobile workbench then you’ll want to include a cupboard or drawers. These can be built into the unit so that wherever you wheel your workbench your tools will be wheeled over too.

It’s a good idea to see what bench accessories are offered by sellers and to have them included at the point of sale. Drawers, cupboards, vices, support bars, and shelves will come in handy and help you start up faster.
